Message from the President

Hello, Crosswind community!

My name is Julie Hendrick, and it is my sincere privilege to serve as your Crosswind Elementary PTA President this school year. Despite all the many differences and challenges this year has presented, it is my hope that you will see the value that an active PTA can bring to our collective school experience. Although we are not able to hold many of our traditional events, we still aim to provide important and enriching programs and services to our Eagle family.

One of our most exciting new programs this year is the introduction of monthly Family Involvement events, organized by our chairperson, Amanda Williams. In September, we hosted Pastries and Planes, providing paper airplane kits to all students, live Teams calls with local pilots (Kandy and Alexis), as well as a partnership with one of our favorite local donut shops, Donut Hutt (don’t forget to use those coupons before January 1!). In October, we provided sign-ups for Pumpkins, Paints, and Superheroes. PTA provided all the needed supplies (paints, brushes, templates)- families just provided pumpkins! If you didn’t get a chance to participate, please visit the Family Fun section of our website to obtain a supply list and instructions so you can still join the fun!

Under the leadership of our VP Membership, Laurie Costello, we are thrilled to announce that we met our PTA Membership Drive goal for September! All students received a Pajama Day for reaching 300 members…and we will celebrate surpassing 400 members by watching Ms. Murin KISS A GOAT. Huge thank you to Menagerie Farm for bringing Cinco to visit and showing the kids a great time!

We are SUPER excited to launch our first-ever Virtual Turkey Trot the last week of October. This is our annual fundraising event, and our Fundraising Chair and Race Coordinator, Rachel Mason and Angela Brunson, have found a fun way for kids to engage in physical activity without being able to host our usual fun run at school. So, get ready to count steps using our special Crosswind Superhero pedometers, and helps us raise some funds to continue providing high-quality supports to our favorite school!

We are also excited to announce that your PTA has enrolled in the National PTA School of Excellence Program! This is a recognition program that supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. By enrolling in this program, our PTA and school administrators are making a year-long commitment in identifying and implementing an action plan for school improvement based on PTA's National Standards for Family-School Partnerships and Transformative Family Engagement. Please support us in this effort by completing the required survey ASAP: (https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=vZY_5SICdkqAw_wMjwW_Fzxo08BnZnVGpH0RsoujOZ5UOEIyMjhVNk9WQlZWOFExQ0kyV0tHV1ZTTC4u).

I’d like to close by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you for being so supportive and encouraging this year. We are truly humbled by the amount of grace, patience, and flexibility everyone continues to share with us as we navigate these unchartered waters. Please know we always welcome your feedback, ideas, and suggestions- we count on you to let us know how you think we can best serve the needs of our children. We are always looking for more volunteers, too! Reach out to any board member if you have an interest in becoming more involved in some way. 😊 Stay tuned for more great things to come as the year progresses!

Murin's Message

From the Crosswind Principal

Dear Crosswind Families,

Good morning! My name is Kristie Murin and I am honored to serve as the new principal at Crosswind Elementary School.  It has been wonderful getting to meet so many of our families during the New Student and Kindergarten Registration held over the last couple of Wednesdays. I am looking forward to meeting each of our families as we navigate this very different start to the school year.

Collierville Schools released the re-entry plan yesterday and families have the option of traditional (in-person) where the student is at school daily or the option of the Collierville Virtual Academy were the student is at home with coursework in a digital format. While we have all been anxiously awaiting this plan, I also understand this plan has undoubtedly created questions for parents.  Please know I am here to answer any of your questions and listen to any concerns you may have.  I want to ensure our families have all the information they need to make the best decision for their family.

To help assist with this process, our wonderful PTA is gathering questions from parents over the next couple of days.  I will take these questions and provide our families as much information as I am able to. Please know I am here to serve our students, our families, our faculty and our Collierville community.  Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented times.  Even in the midst of challenges and changes, we are going to have a SUPER year at Crosswind.  I am looking forward to working together this year and seeing our little eagles grow and soar!  Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of any assistance. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Kristie Murin
