Message from the President

Happy Summer to our Crosswind family!

My name is Julie Hendrick, and I am serving as your Crosswind PTA President for the 2020-21 school year. We have a PTA Board full of amazing volunteers who have a host of talents, skills, and ideas to contribute to our programming for the upcoming year. I want to thank all of them for their willingness to serve our students, families, and school staff in this capacity- especially as we face such uncertain times stemming from the ongoing (and ever-changing) impact of COVID-19.

Crosswind Elementary has a reputation for incredible parent involvement and top-notch teachers and staff. We are confident that we will continue to see this in the coming year, no matter what the school schedule may look like! Crosswind Eagles will rise (soar?) to face any challenge! As your PTA, a huge part of our responsibility is to help build strong family-school-community partnerships. Having these connections leads to better outcomes for everyone- higher teacher morale, increased communication, more parent involvement, more community support, and greater student success. (For more info, please read about PTA’s national standards for family-school partnerships: https://www.pta.org/home/run-your-pta/National-Standards-for-Family-School-Partnerships). According to national PTA, it is our mission “to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.” We may have to re-think how we hold events and raise money to support this mission, but we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children by working together!

As the year progresses, we hope we can count on your support. Please consider an individual ($10) or family ($15) membership in Crosswind PTA. Volunteer your time and ideas as we plan various activities- greet fellow Crosswind families, set up before or clean up after an event, help us design promotional materials, facilitate connections with local businesses and other potential supporters. The possibilities are endless, and we aren’t able to provide high-quality support without YOU!

We aim to build on last year’s theme with some slight modification: “communication and appreciation…and flexibility.” As your PTA Board, we always strive to be good stewards of the funds donated to us by our families and community/business partners. While we begin to draft a budget and calendar of events for the upcoming year, we ask for your grace and understanding. We are trying to plan for multiple scenarios, which is extremely challenging- especially for the 1/3 of our board who are brand new to their roles! Please know that we will do our best to keep you updated as often as possible so that you can make informed decisions/votes on these PTA business matters. We welcome your questions and feedback at any time- never hesitate to reach out to any board member with your inquiries!

Again, thank you for your support! You are a valued part of our children’s educational experience. We look forward to a terrific, fun-filled year together at Crosswind Elementary…where children come first!

- Julie Hendrick / PTA President
